Voigt Brass

In January of 2024, I became an owner of an amazing instrument built for me by the master craftsmen at Voigt Brass.

I can’t say enough good things about this instrument, it is the best instrument I have ever held in my hands. More importantly, I can’t say enough good things about the people there. They care about the instruments they build.

Jurgen Voigt founded this amazing company during the Cold War with the mission to always be innovating, listen to feedback from performers and to make the best instruments on the planet.

Voigt Brass resides in the music instrument manufacturing center of Germany, Markneukirchen.

Randall Malmstrom

Randall G. Malmstrom is a prolific arranger of music for Low Brass. Being an advocate of the Contrabass Trombone, he integrates the instrument into the arrangements he writes. He is always pushing the players while still making a beautiful musical statement.

I am forever grateful for Randy’s hard work in creating fantastic arrangements for the Trombone Community.

He has and continues to be a trusted colleague and a great friend.

IM Brassworks

Brass publishing site founded by Bass Trombonist Ilan Morgenstern. He is an accomplished soloist and clinician and a great person to work with!

During the pandemic, I first became familiar with his work, the Trombone Exercise Library Project (TELP). And after a year and a half of requests to adapt it for Contrabass Trombone, he asked me to edit the book for the different tuning systems. It was a fun opportunity and a resource I use in my daily routines.

Ilan also just released a line of 3D printed mutes for tenor and bass trombone. Morningstar mutes are a game changer for sure!

This photo was taken after I joined Ilan on his recital at Portland State University.

Long Island Brass Company

Long Island Brass Company prides itself on its unique and innovative approach to instrument manufacturing. To put it simply, they are not like the rest. Down to even something as simple as a ferrule, they have chosen their methods of horn building based on what will create the best product for the player. In short, this means a higher degree of precision that you will not find anywhere else.

Most recently they have aggressively expanded into mouthpieces, utilizing high production standards to launch innovative designs. With each LI Brass Co mouthpiece, every player receives a specimen which exudes industry leading quality standards.

What really convinced me to move to these mouthpieces was the responsiveness. I have never experienced responsiveness like the mouthpieces they make.

You can purchase their mouthpieces here.
